For those seeking a longer adventure, we offer multi-day “chalet hopping” hikes, with the option of backpacking or comfortable slackpacking, where we transport your luggage to the next chalet.
While hiking, guests can enjoy wide open mountain views, rugged granite hills and the peaceful silence of the Namibian bush. With a bit of luck, wildlife such as giraffe, zebra or antelope may also be seen along the way, making every hike a unique experience.

Day hiking trails
Both overnight guests and day visitors are welcome to explore several well-marked hiking trails on the farm. The trails range from short walks of about one hour to longer hikes of up to six hours, allowing guests to discover the diverse landscapes of the Khomas Hochland at their own pace.
Along the way, hikers can enjoy wide open mountain views, rugged granite hills and the peaceful atmosphere of the Namibian bush. With a bit of luck, wildlife such as giraffe, zebra, antelope or smaller game may be spotted during the hike, making every walk a unique experience.
Only for hiking Day visitors are required to pre-pay a conservation fee of NAD 375 per person with reservation. If you however book in addition a game drive and lunch, there will be no conservationn fee.
After the hike, many guests enjoy relaxing at the main lodge restaurant, or combining their visit with one of our afternoon game drives, which offer excellent wildlife viewing and a beautiful sundowner in the mountains.
Weekend trails
Khomas Eck Basecamp Experience
For those looking for a true wilderness hiking experience close to Windhoek, the Ombota Wilderness Trail offers an excellent 2- or 3-day weekend adventure, located only about 50 km from the capital.
The trail starts at the main lodge and leads hikers through beautiful mountain landscapes to the Khomas Eck Basecamp, a simple but comfortable overnight shelter.
The basecamp offers basic overnight facilities, including a room with beds, shower and toilet, basic electricity, a fridge and braai facilities.
Guests can choose between a backpacking option, where they bring their own food and sleeping bag, or a more comfortable slackpacking option, where we transport food and bedding to the basecamp for an additional fee.
After a relaxing night at the basecamp, hikers can return to the farm the next day on a different scenic trail. The basecamp is also very inviting for guests who wish to stay an extra night and explore the surrounding mountains.
A special highlight is the hike to the summit of Khomas Eck (1,850 m). The trail to the top offers beautiful, unspoiled views across the mountain landscape, passing a dry waterfall along the way. From the summit, hikers are rewarded with a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view over the surrounding Khomas Hochland.

Long distance trails
Together with neighbouring farmers, we offer the Khomas Hochland Hiking Trail (KHHT), a scenic route spanning either 100 km over 6 days or 54 km over 4 days. The trail, which has already gained significant popularity, starts and ends at Düsternbrook. Find out more about the KHHT here.
