FOOD & DRINKS

Breakfast

Breakfast is served for our overnight guests on the terrace overlooking the riverbed. Enjoy a generous buffet prepared to high Western European standards – the perfect relaxed start to your day in nature.

The buffet includes fresh fruit salad, muesli, bread and toast, eggs (fried or boiled), cheese, a selection of cold cuts, and a variety of nuts.

Lunch

For lunch, we offer a selection of light meals such as fresh salads, home-baked sandwiches, and wraps.

Warm dishes are available on request – please order in advance or by 11:00 on the same day.

Please note that lunch is not included in our DBB rates.

Dinner

Dinner is served in a welcoming and social setting – in our traditional lapa during summer or in the dining room during winter.

We offer a fixed three-course menu (not à la carte). A smaller alternative menu is also available, featuring the same starter and dessert, with a limited choice for the main course.

All meals are freshly prepared daily. Guests are kindly asked to make their menu selection upon arrival. Special dietary requirements must be communicated in advance, as shopping is done only once per week.

Dining is typically arranged in a shared, family-style atmosphere, offering a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow guests.

If you prefer a private table, we are happy to arrange this – please inform reception in advance.

The main course typically features fish, game (often, but not always, sourced from our own farm), beef, chicken, or lamb, accompanied by vegetables and a choice of rice, potatoes, or pasta – all prepared to high European standards.

  • Delicious breakfast buffet with fresh local products.
  • Home-baked sandwiches and salats for lunch.
  • Family style 3-course dinner.
  • Drinks at the bar and the reception area during the day.
RELAX…
SWIMMING POOL & BAR

We offer a spacious swimming pool surrounded by palm trees, as well as a traditional thatched lapa with a small bar and a game-viewing deck overlooking the riverbed.

During the day, refreshing drinks are available from reception. The bar at the lapa opens in the evening, approximately 30 minutes before dinner. Relax on the sun loungers by the pool and enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings.

Our visitor centre, while not fully up to date, still provides interesting insights into the region, as well as the wildlife and plant life found on the farm.

INDIVIDUAL TOURISM

Ideal for independent travellers seeking an authentic experience

Sustainable Tourism

Our guest farm is designed for independent travellers seeking an authentic and peaceful experience. You will not encounter large tourist buses here.

Most of the buildings and décor are based on local materials and reflect the historical character of the farm. The original farmhouse and surrounding buildings date back to 1908. We have consciously preserved this colonial-era style to offer our guests a sense of Namibia’s past. Modern architecture would not harmonise with this natural environment.

Sustainability is a core principle of our operation. We are committed to minimising our environmental impact through responsible construction and daily practices. This includes water-saving systems, renewable energy solutions, and waste separation.

We kindly ask our guests to be mindful that Namibia is an arid country with a single rainy season, where water is a precious resource.

Since transitioning from a cattle farm to a wildlife reserve in 1986, we have, apart from game like oryx, kudu, mountain zebra and warthog which always roamed the area successfully reintroduced numerous species that once inhabited this area, including ostrich, giraffe and burghell zebra. Today, species such as waterbuck, impala, springbuck and ˜Hippo, also thrive, very well supported by carefully managed water resources, including big dams and solar-powered borehole systems that allow for natural groundwater recovery overnight.

Our guest farm is set up for individual travellers. This means you won’t find large busses with tourist on our farm. The construction and decoration you see are mostly from local materials with a historical ambiance. Seeing the old farm house and outside buildings have originally been build in the clonal time 1908 we have deliberately chosen that style, to give our guests a a bit of a feeling of the old days in Namibia. Very modern buildings simply would not match in this environment.

Why Choose Düsternbrook Guest Farm

We are centrally located in Namibia and easily accessible from both Windhoek and the international airport. A direct highway connection allows for a smooth and comfortable journey without the need to drive through the city.

Although we are only 50 km from Windhoek and about 90 km from the international airport, you will find yourself surrounded by nature within just a few minutes. Namibia is one of the least densely populated countries in the world – and even here, close to the capital, you are already in the bush with excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

Düsternbrook is a privately owned guest farm set within a vast natural landscape, offering breathtaking views and a peaceful, authentic atmosphere. Over the years, until 2015, we regularly participated and have received several awards, including the prestigious 5 Flowers of the Namibian Eco Award, which recognises environmentally responsible management and fair trade practices. We still continue, in sound environmental management practises, to run the farm but do not participate anymore in the award system as we had reached the top.

We continuously invest in maintaining and improving the farm, its infrastructure, and its natural environment. Rather than replacing historic buildings with modern structures, we preserve their original character – as they are an important part of the farm’s unique charm and history.

As an independent traveller, you will meet like-minded guests and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere without mass tourism or large tour buses.

Your stay makes a difference.
By choosing a guest farm, you actively support a privately managed natural area. The surrounding landscape, wildlife, water points, and infrastructure are maintained through tourism, helping to sustain both conservation efforts and local employment.

In this way, your visit becomes more than just a holiday – it becomes a meaningful contribution to preserving Namibia’s unique environment for future generations.
