Düsternbrook Safari Guestfarm offers a diverse landscape with stunning wildlife – a rare experience so close to Windhoek. Open plains, riverbeds and rolling hills create ideal conditions for horse safaris, with beautiful mountain backdrops surrounding the farm.
The possibilities for horse safaris are almost endless, with breathtaking scenery unfolding behind every hilltop.
Exploring the landscape on horseback allows you to experience nature in a very special way. Wildlife tends to accept horses more naturally, often allowing riders to approach animals much closer than on foot or by vehicle.
We offer horse riding for both overnight guests and day visitors, with rides suitable for beginners as well as more experienced riders.
For those who would like to experience more time in the saddle, we also offer worry-free multi-day riding packages, including airport transfers. Packages start from a minimum of four days, while five-, six- or seven-day options may include special experiences such as a breakfast ride, a sundowner ride or an overnight ride.
Signature Horseback Safaris at Düsternbrook
We offer you the opportunity to explore Africa’s unique landscapes on horseback. Our diverse selection of horses includes spirited Arabians, calm Quarter Horse crosses and hardy local breeds – ensuring the right horse for every rider. Horses are ridden in classic English style with comfortable trail saddles, and the weight limit is 80 kg.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, we tailor each ride to your level and confidence. For children or those who prefer extra guidance, our guides can lead the horse with a lead rope, or you can begin with a short riding lesson to build confidence.
Experienced riders can enjoy exhilarating gallops through wide riverbeds or more adventurous rides into the surrounding hills, where both rider and horse can experience the excitement of the terrain.
Throughout your safari, an experienced guide will accompany you, sharing insights into the region’s fascinating wildlife, plants and landscape.
Our Horses & Training
Our horses are kept in spacious, well-maintained stables and enjoy ample pasture to ensure they remain healthy and content. Mares and geldings live together in a herd and have access to outdoor spaces throughout the year. For training, we have a 20 × 60 m dressage arena as well as a small cross-country course.
Six of our horses are experienced guide horses with excellent character and many years of experience working with wildlife and riders of all levels. Our younger horses are equally promising—calm, willing and attentive.
Our aim is to train horses that are safe and reliable for beginners, while still offering an enjoyable and exciting ride for more experienced riders. All of our horses are regularly ridden and continuously trained.
To ensure a personal and relaxed experience, rides are limited to a maximum of five riders per group.
