1. Location
Situated on the edge of the Khomas Hochland
mountain range, Düsternbrook Guest Farm is only 48km (45 minutes) from Windhoek
and only 90 km (80 minutes) from the International Airport. From Windhoek, take
the B1 north (towards Okahandja, Etosha National Park, or Sossusvlei via Swakopmund
). After 30 km turn off to the left (opposite Okapuka) onto the D1499. After 18km
(clearly signed) you will reach the farmhouse. The farm encompasses about 14000
ha, mostly at about 1350 m elevation. Map

2. Accommodation
The 1909 farmhouse (early settler
style) is situated high on a riverbank and overlooks breathtaking scenery with
unspoiled nature and wildlife. The African savanna and the riverbed below the
farmhouse offer you the real impression of being "Out of Africa". Düsternbrook
Guest Farm, near Windhoek, is centrally situated and an ideal venue not only for
your first and last nights in Namibia but also to rest for a few days between
the northern and southern parts of your Namibian tour. Guest Farm Duesternbrook
is not big. We only have 13 beds in single and double rooms and two double safari
luxury tents. We also have a camping site, which offers enough space for 4 to
5 Campers. Map & Distances

Düsternbrook Guest Farm/ Lodge, 50km from Windhoek, offers you the following accommodations inclusive of dinner, bed & breakfast (DBB) and our main wildlife activities:
1. a cheetah and leopard feeding drive and
2. a normal game drive with plains game.
The different rooms are located in separate guesthouses. All our rooms are individually furnished, partly with antique elements, so each room has its own charm and style.
Our camping area offers basic camping facilities. The price includes different modules like dinner, breakfast, C&L Drive and a game drive. You can book a package which includes all or different modules. The campground has separate showers and toilets for ladies and gents. We prefer no self-catering as we don't want to create a baboon problem but if you do self-catering you HAVE to take out what you take in! Baboons can be a real problem in a campground. Although we have baboons in the area so far we do not have a baboon problem.
We offer 24-hr 220 V electricity and warm water. (No noisy generator at night!!)
Please note: In 2005 we received, as the only Guest Farm in Namibia with exception of some lodges, the Eco Award. Important criterias for the Eco Award are water, energy- and waste management and water and energy consumption. The award also checks if you use natural building materials, the appearance of the garden (local or alien plants) and the surface area of the lawn etc. Finally they look to see if you make use of local staff and what is done to train them. So there are many questions and criteria to be evaluated. We are proud to have managed to get 3 out of 5 possible flowers.
3. Food and Drinks at Düsternbrook
Guest Farm (Lodge)
Our food is always a freshly prepared European cuisine
made with local products. The meals often include local game or farm-assured Namibian
beef dishes. Homemade: We produce our own sausages and smoked meat
of several game meat and every day there is fresh homemade bread and jams. In
our Winter (May to July), dinner is served in the dining room of the main house
with antique furniture and a fireplace. In Summer dinner is served on the open
veranda with a beautiful view over the riverbed or in our thatched 'lapa' (lapa
is the local word for eating place).
We offer a small selection of good South African white and red wines and Namibian beer, which is brewed in the German tradition ("Reinheitsgebot"). We also offer various soft drinks, fruit juices and water. Before dinner we recommend our Kir Duesternbrook.
You will enjoy the individual care and hospitality at Düsternbrook. The family atmosphere will make you feel at home and like part of this wildlife oasis in Namibia.
Your
host, Johann Vaatz, and his team are looking forward to your visit and to welcome
you to Düsternbrook Guest Farm!
